Christmas is right around the corner! It’s never too early to start planning those school parties or just a fun family night to make memories!
This is a super easy little spin on the traditional gingerbread house which can be hard for little hands to manage.
I have done these with my kid’s school classes for several years and they are always a huge hit! I have also thrown a Gingerbread Party for my daughter & her friends using this same technique!
Here’s what you will need…
If I am doing a class party…I just ask my children’s teacher to save the milk cartons from lunch one day. (Tip: hot glue the carton shut)
It isn’t necessary to put the frosting in a ziploc bag…but it sure makes it less messy & easy on little hands!
Graham crackers broke in halves fit perfect on the milk carton!
Use the frosting to “glue” the sides of the house (graham crackers) to the carton.
Tip: I like to hot glue the milk carton to the paper plate so that it doesn’t move around while they are decorating!
See how it shapes into a cute little house? The carton gives it just the support it needs!
Then grab whatever fun candy you want to decorate your house! Use the frosting to glue it on!
It’s that easy!
It’s stormed Christmas Eve, then rained cats & dogs all Christmas morning…but by late afternoon we had us a white Christmas!
When we left East Texas it was in the 60’s. By the time we made it to GWL it was snowing and flippin freezing outside. And I was in capris & flip flops!
We checked in and met up with muh sista & her fam of 9!
Our two families had to pack in the elevator like sardines.
My kids were so excited when they saw the room!
The view from our balcony…
We had been in our rooms a whole 5 min when my sister’s crew locked themselves out of their room.
So I decided to go ahead and give all her kids their Christmas gifts from us.
Great Wolf Lodge gift cards!
The older two girls dumped us pretty quick so they didn’t make it in the picture.
In the next two pics the older girls are trying to convince the younger kids to go on the biggest slides.
Of course they couldn’t be persuaded.
But I could! I love water slides! Danny & I changed clothes after an hour of watching the kids and joined the fun. The two biggest slides.. Especially the Twister.. Was epic!
After the water park.. We retreated to our room to shower and get dressed for dinner.
The kids got these ears free with their meal.
Pardon Garridon, he had a little too much to drink.
After we ate I took the kids to spend their gift cards.. They chose to make pillows at the build a bear place.
The one things I guess I missed the memo on is: pajamas. Apparently it’s like a big deal. At night nearly every person in the hotel is in pajamas (including all adults) and running around eating dinner or doing activities. It’s a busy place!
GWL has a lot of things to do… But we were pretty tuckered out so I just let the kids spend their cards and we stopped once more at the gift shop, grabbed some hot chocolate at Starbucks, and went to say goodnight to muh sista & her brood.
We all had a great time! Lots of memories made!
When we got home there was still plenty of snow!
Santa’s fav….double stuffed Oreos
don’t let the quantity fool ya.. That’s Black Friday shopping at its finest.
A bad storm came through about 4 am and Garridon ended up in our bed.. But not before sneaking a quick peek. He kept saying.. I think Santa brought me two dirtbikes! We kept saying.. Go to sleep! Lol
Then around 7am Daynie came in our room hollering about everything Santa brought. Then Garridon told her he already knows because he saw it all before her..
And the fighting ensued.
O.M.G. Why does EVERYTHING have to be a competition?
I’m about one nuh-uh away from this…
Has anyone else heard of Doggie Doo?
Can you imagine my embarrassment when both kids told Santa that’s what they wanted for Christmas!?
I had to Google & watch a You Tube video to even figure out what in the world they were talking about.
there are no words
the long awaited coveted Stompeez
Funny thing… As soon as Garridon saw Daynie’s Stompeez… He dropped the present he was opening and went on a search for a box wrapped in his paper about the same size.
Can you see Daynie’s excitement? I hate that the pic is blurry because her face was perfect!
It took her a minute to figure out they actually got a 3DS and not just the games.
This was a few of my presents..
-the wrong kind of perfume
-the wrong size shoes
-an alien looking massager
-(not pictured) a Taylor Swift cd…which I already have..in which he knows I already had bc I asked him to buy it for my bday in nov & I got tired of waiting so I bought it myself and he saw it in my car 3 weeks later and threw a fit bc “he was going to buy it for my birthday”
-(also not pictured) a gift cert to my fav nail place for a pedicure…which he completely forgot he had and just stuck it in my stocking 30 min after I looked in it while I was in the shower…I found it an hour later when I was cleaning stockings out to gang back up
I guess I’ll let him slide on all that..since he did just buy me a car…
These were by far the best gifts.. The kids were over the top excited and have loved every minute of them.
After all the stockings and presents were opened… I let them open their Great Wolf Lodge gift cards.
They were a little confused since they had no clue what GWL was. Kinda reminded me of the boys reaction to taking them to the indoor waterpark lol
But once I said indoor water park my kids were all kinds of excited to be going to Great Wolf.
Again..we wanted to create an experience they wouldn’t forget for Christmas. This trip was a collaboration between me & my sista. We had a great time too!
After we finished opening presents..we got dressed and Danny cooked breakfast. His sister & her husband (Babe & Babe) and his brother came over to celebrate Christmas with his dad (who ended up a no show because it was storming all morning)
The kids played Doggie Doo…
Then G whooped Uncle Babe at some air hockey..
While Aunt Hollie was getting her Doggie Doo on..
Then we ate some Christmas morning grub..
Then the kids played with his gift from Aunt
Hollie Babe and Uncle Michael Babe.
While we hung out
While we were talking the kids snuck in the kitchen and were trying to put their snow cone machine together. They didn’t really know what they were doing and tried to use orange juice!
Danny tried to help them.. I don’t think any of them ever figured it out.
Christmas Day to be continued…
Christmas Eve we did Christmas with Danny’s mom and his siblings.
His mom makes the whole shebang Christmas dinner.
ok.. Be jelly..it’s that good.
Then Granny passed out stockings & presents..
As you can see Danny & our oldest nephew, Brent, were thoroughly enjoying the whole Christmas experience…
My fav gift was the Birds of Paradise Scentsy & huge candle!
This is all the cousins on Danny’s side…
The day before Christmas Eve (Sunday) Danny’s sister and I surprised the younger kids with a trip to the indoor water park.
Too often on family Christmases (and this one proved to be no different) the kids get handed a stack of gifts and tear through them in less than a minute. They don’t know who they are from and by the next day the presents are completely forgotten.
I wanted to create a memory for them instead. Spend our money on an experience that wouldn’t be soon forgotten.
So we decided on taking them to the water park since Danny’s brother’s kids have never been to one.
We had agreed we were only going to give them their stockings at the family Christmas so they would still have something to open. (since they were still getting gifts from Granny) but ahem someone still bought them presents..lol. So me and Danny picked up hats for them too from Bass Pro to open from us.
Not that it mattered bc like I said.. The kids tore through everything and had no clue who got them what. I tried to yell at my kids from across the room as they were opening and ask who the gift they were opening was from.. But my efforts were met with shrugs and I don’t knows.
Back to Sunday.. I had picked up some bathing suits on clearance and wrapped them up.
The older two (teenagers) opted out of the water park and held out for cold hard cash.
I was surprised by the boys lack of excitement until I realized they were confused because they had no idea what a water park was or what to expect. As you can see from the video my kids had enough excitement for everyone. They are such loud mouths lol.
Quote of the day..”aww man I just put my belt on”
Ha! That was by Blake. You can just barely catch it at the end of the video.
On the way you could see the excitement grow!
The boys were really surprised!
Blaine said he thought it was going to be smaller.. Or just a pool.
After these pics I put my phone in the locker and the kids and Hollie and I had an awesome day going down slides & hanging out in the lazy river with the kids.
Everyone had the best time!
After we took the kids to eat at Mercados. The boys request. Our fam loves us some Mexican food!
I think the trip was a success! More than likely already today none of the kids can tell you what presents they opened on Christmas Eve or who they are from…
But I guarantee they all can tell you who the coolest Aunts Eva are & will remember that water park trip FO-EVA!!
I don’t know why in the world the goofy school schedules the kid’s parties all at the same time! The parking (or lack thereof) is reedick.
And this was the line to get in…
It was fuh- reezin!
Plus.. Because the parties were at the same time.. I spent the whole time running back and forth between each class.
Garridon’s teacher did a fun game to hand out presents.. They played “hot potato” but with the presents.
Everyone got a coloring book and crayons.. Which I thought was a great idea.. And we were supposed to put them in gift bags. Well I forgot and wrapped Garridon’s. I justified it to myself by saying bags are boring for little kids & unwrapping is fun.
Well I realized at the party why this rebel mamma needs to follow rules..
The bags were meant to carry all their party goodies home. Which is pretty much a genius idea. Hats off to the room mom.
I rushed back over to Daynie’s room just in time to find out why all the kids getting the same gift was also a genius idea.
Daynie was opening her secret Santa gift and I was mortified at her behavior!
She had a bad look on her face and was saying..a baby! I’m not a baby! I hate babies!.
And here is where the sweet little girl (who also happens to be a church friend and was on our t ball team) was calling Daynie’s name and when Daynie looked up the little girl had the most excited look on her face and was saying.. Do you like it?
I. Was. MORTIFIED!
Daynie was being such a brat.
I don’t know who the mom to my right witnessing this atrocious behavior was.. But thank The Lord that the mom to my left I knew and was reassuring me that all of our kids have acted that way at some point.
I grabbed Daynie and gave her an earful. I could tell she was embarrassed and actually felt bad about the thought that the little girl might have heard her act that way over the present she brought. Sometimes I have to remember that Daynie is seven and thinks like a seven year old. Her mind was on herself and the disappointment of not getting the present she wanted. Once I got onto her and expanded her thought process to include other people.. I could see the look on her face and could tell she felt bad about it. That made me feel good that she felt remorse for her actions and compassion for another’s feelings.
A few minutes later a mom asked Daynie to take a pic with her son. Daynie kind of made a face at her like are you serious? Do I have to?
Again I was one embarrassed mamma!
The mom said her son did the same thing when she told him she wanted a pic of the two of them. He said he didn’t want to take a picture with a girl!
That did make me think how awkward and embarrassing that could be through the eyes of seven year olds.
The reason the mom wanted the pic was because these three kids gave been in the same class together since Kindergarten..
Daynie’s teacher made these totally adorable ornaments…
I love it! I could tell she put a lot of time in them! What a great keepsake!
Next Daynie’s class decorated cookies.
I ran back down to Garridon’s party to get him and came back to find this..
Here’s some of Garridon’s artwork in the hall.
Brooklyn & Garridon…
Garridon’s teacher’s gift…
Daynie’s was the same except with her teachers name .
Before we left we took a little stroll through the Lost & Found.
Yes. That is serious people!
Sunday the 16th was Danny’s family huge Christmas.
It consists of: a lot of family, a lot of food, a lot of prizes, & a lot of Bingo.
I had my eye on this Bingo prize..
Because what’s more awesome than a hippie Santa? Umm.. Nothing!
And awesome it was!
This family is serious about two things..
And #2. Bingo.
She was soo excited about the whole thing.
But her excitement escalated to epic levels when she found her calling as bingo caller
She’s seriously the most serious bingo caller ever! Lol
Here’s my prizes..
This is my sweet nephew..
He won this and gave it to me..
Me & my forever friend LeeAnn and my photo bombing sista n law
Garridon enjoyed a little shirtless elf football while we were cleaning up the party..
From there the party moved outside where the G man entertained us with his famous belly roll.
Saturday the 15th was Daynie’s twirling party..
She had to bring an age appropriate gift..and her and Brooklyn ended up being the only two little ones and just so happened to bring the exact same gift..
I left for most of the party because. I had Garridon and he had no interest in an all girl party.
I did however come in toward the end of the party just in time to observe the most competitive game of musical chairs ever.
Who knew these teenage girls could be so cutthroat over a little kid game?! Ha!
Daynie had a great time!
Glad the world didn’t end…bc I’m pretty stoked to use this in twenty thirteen..
I got the PDF from Confessions of a Homeschooler
Step by step directions on printing made it easy. The last page (blog brainstormer) came from The Project Girl
I like the format & printed about 25 front and back and added them to the back. I just took it to a local place and had it bound into a spiral.
Like our big ass ham?
Don’t be jelly.
Loves to wrap presents.
He was seriously cracking me up with his preciseness with the To: & From:
This other guy:
Is having a great time fillin the freezer
Have you lost a jacket?
If you have there’s a good chance it’s in the lost & found lining the halls of my kids school.
Yes. That’s for real.
This gives me some serious chuckles.
Pin it…ya know ya wanna!
